Simpson Missions & Ministries Outreach Programs

VOLUNTEERING AT LOCAL SCHOOL

Every week (during the school year) volunteers arrive at Willard School to read to/with the  students for about 45 minutes.  We also have a school supply drive each fall.  All items are given to Willard School.

Temporarily unable to go into the schools due to COVID.

FOOD FOR THE FOOD PANTRIES

Members/Friends are en-couraged to donate food items each week.  The children bring the food to the altar as they come forward for "Children's Time" during the worship service.  Volunteers deliver the food to the D.M. Area Religious Council for distribution through the food pantries.

QUILTING GROUP

Two Monday evenings a month a group of  six women (sometime more, sometimes less!) meet to tie quilts.  Much beautiful fabric has been donated for the quilts and two of the women piece them,  making twin and/or crib size quilts which are then taken to church where the batting and backing are added and the other women tie them.  Women and children living at a local shelter are the lucky receipients of these beautiful and lovingly made quilts.

CARE OF OUR SHUT-INS

Twice each year (near Easter and Christmas) a group takes gifts to our Shut-ins and sings to/with them.

Due to  COVID this activity  has been temporarily suspended.

TRUNK OR TREAT

One of our most successful (and fun) projects is to park our cars in the church parking lot on Halloween, and give neighbor-hood children treats out of our trunks.  We also serve a free community meal of chili/hot dogs, chips and a drink that evening.

BOY SCOUT PROGRAM
Sponsored by Simpson

Simpson sponsors Scout Troop and Pack #24 and the Venture Crew.  They meet weekly at the church, provide assistance where needed, serve meals as fund raisers, and hold special activities

(All actvities temporarily canceled)

THE GOOD SAMARITAN FUND

Donations made to our Good Samaritan Fund are dispersed by the pastor to needy neighbors for food, gasoline and medications. Due to Simpson's  location, and the bad economy many people solicit us for money and assistance. Limited funds do not stretch far enough to meet all those needs.

TWO ANNUAL
RUMMAGE SALES

These sales are scheduled annually in the spring and the fall. They are an effective and highly valued neighborhood community service.  Our items are clean and in good repair and sold at very reasonable prices.  COVID has prevented us from having a fall sale.  We are excited to have a Spring sale April 15-17.  Restrictions such as wearing a mask and hand sanitizing will be strictly observed.

KITS THAT HELP OTHERS

The folks of Simpson Church work all year long on kits (Sewing, health, school, layettes) for  the Thanksgiving In-gathering which is always the  first Saturday in November.  The In-gathering is a way for Iowa United Methodists to help in addressing hunger problems locally and around the world.

PLEASE NOTE:  United Methodist Women, the Missions Evangelism Committee and individual gifts.  If you wish to volunteer, please contact the church office.
